Bishopbriggs Taxi Stance – Public Consultation
Consultation is taking place with members of the public and stakeholders to help drive forward plans for a taxi stance (also known as a taxi rank) in the Bishopbriggs area.
It follows consultation with taxi drivers and operators in October 2025, which included four potential options.
From the viable options initially identified, two preferred proposals have been selected – Option A and Option B.
We want you to have a say on which the Council should now choose. Option A is located at the shops on Kirkintilloch Road and Option B is closer to the railway station.

History
In Bishopbriggs, work has been taking place to find a suitable location for a taxi stance as part of the wider Glasgow City Region Bishopbriggs Town Centre Regeneration project.
Previously, an informal taxi rank operated from the area between Morrisons and St Matthew’s Church. However, that was fenced off by the supermarket following road layout changes.
Positive discussions have taken place between the Council and Morrisons regarding town centre redevelopment plans. However, the Council has been informed that a designated, formal taxi rank within the store car park is not an option due to limited space.
As part of the Bishopbriggs Public Realm Plan, design consultants engaged with East Dunbartonshire Taxi Owners Association and discussed potential options for the siting of a taxi rank – including the new Civic Space, that will be created nearby.
It has not been possible to incorporate a taxi stance within plans for the new Civic Space as it would have had a significant impact in terms of timescale and cost.
Further options were reviewed by officers in Licensing – together with colleagues in Roads and Planning – which were considered at a meeting of the Policy and Resources Committee in September 2025.
Four options were presented as part of the taxi trade consultation in October 2025. These have now been narrowed down to two.
Taxi rank options along the A803 within the town centre were ruled out at an early stage. One of the main aims of the A803 project is to reduce the dominance of vehicles and boost pedestrian space (in an already constrained and vehicle-dominated environment).
The A803 project’s shortlisted options included the removal of bus lay-bys to allow wider footways, with buses stopping in the road, giving them priority over other vehicles. Although works to the A803 have been deferred, the Council is still committed to progressing the project when funding allows.
Stances in other areas
Proposals for taxi ranks in Kirkintilloch and Milngavie were approved by the Council's Policy and Resources Committee in November 2024 and the necessary Traffic Regulation Orders are being progressed.
Meanwhile, appropriate options for taxi stances within Bearsden are currently being considered.
