Technical Notes 2026, Issue 89 - Allander Rail Halt
The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide Elected Members with an update following a question at the meeting of Council on 2nd April 2026 in relation to rail infrastructure and the aspirations for a rail halt at Allander.
As detailed in the Evidence Report for Local Development Plan 3, at present there are no plans to develop additional railway stations or infrastructure; however, the Council continues to safeguard land for potential future stations at Allander (Bearsden/Milngavie) and Westerhill (Bishopbriggs).
Members will however be aware of the work being led by SPT on Clyde Metro. Clyde Metro is a fully integrated mass transit public transport system which could include a variety of modes. More information can be viewed on the SPT website.
Although still at an early stage of development, SPT are engaging with relevant external partners (including ScotRail, Network Rail) regarding their future role in Clyde Metro and delivery of an integrated public transport network. SPT are carrying out initial scoping for a heavy rail optimisation programme aligned with Clyde Metro.
Officers continue to engage with SPT on this workstream. Current governance arrangements include reporting through the Glasgow City Region Cabinet however Officers will provide updates via technical notes and present reports to Committee where any Council decisions are required.
