This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.
This Technical Note has been written to update Elected Members on the Public Meeting organised by the three Community Councils serving Bearsden and Milngavie. The meeting was initially arranged to cover Roads and Traffic related topics covering the Bearsden and Milngavie areas.,
The meeting was held in the Bearsden Community Hub on Thursday 19 March 2026
The organisers advised that the purpose of the public meeting was to answer questions on various Roads and Traffic topics within the Bearsden area with up to 150 local residents and Councillors in attendance
The organisers were advised that due to the forthcoming Scottish Parliament Election being held on Thursday 7 May 2026 that Council Officers will not attend the public meeting
The recess date for the Scottish Parliament is 26 March. However, it should be noted that the ‘pre-election’ period for this election formally commences with the publication of the Notice of Election on 16 March 2026 and runs until the conclusion of the Election count on Friday 8 May 2026
The Council’s Pre Election Guidance will apply for the duration of this period. Because of the pre-election period, I would confirm that officer representing East Dunbartonshire Council are unable to attend the meeting
As this public meeting fell within the pre-election period and there is the potential for candidates to attend, it is important for officers to exercise caution and so it is not appropriate for East Dunbartonshire Council Officers to attend
However, I would confirm that the relevant officers would be happy to attend any future Community Council meetings to discuss and answer any local issues improving communications with the local Community Councils
This information was communicated to the meeting organisers in advance, and it was agreed that the Council would provide written response to questions received by 5pm on Friday 13 March 2026
The list of questions received, and responses are included as an Appendix to this Technical Note
It was also agreed that any questions submitted after the Friday 13 March deadline will also be answered and sent to the meeting organisers as soon as possible for them to include as a post meeting update
This updated Technical Note and Appendix covers the additional questions submitted by residents after the initial 13 March deadline.
