Thomas McMenamin, Executive Officer - Roads & Neighbourhood Services
Publication:
This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.
The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide Members with specific notification of the resurfacing of Southbank Drive, Kirkintilloch, as part of the overall Roads & Neighborhood Services 2025/26 Carriageway Resurfacing Programme.
The Service recognises that this is a particularly difficult location due to the volume of local offices, facilities and amenities in the area, but the work is necessary to improve the deteriorating carriageway and complete the previous resurfacing of Southbank Road.
Works will impact upon people accessing:
North Lanarkshire College – Kirkintilloch Campus
Kirkintilloch Police Station
Lairdsland Early Years Centre
Southbank House/Business Park
Marina Complex
Sainsbury’s
Lairdsland Primary School.
It should be noted that Southbank Drive, Kirkintilloch will be closed to all vehicles in two phases – between 6am on Sunday 15 February and 6pm on Sunday 22 February 2026.
The work will be completed in two phase to allow some movement, but there will be temporary disruption during the closure period and anyone traveling in the area should take cognisance of the undernoted arrangements.
Phase one – the section of Southbank Drive between Southbank Road and the junctions with Strathkelvin Place/Sainsbury's car park (marked in red below) will be closed from Sunday 15 February to Monday 16 February 2026. You will be able to access Strathkelvin Place from the Donaldson Street direction.
Phase two – the section of Southbank Drive between Donaldson Street and the junctions with Strathkelvin Place/Sainsbury's car park (marked in blue below) will be closed from Tuesday 17 February to Sunday 22 February 2026. You will be able to access Strathkelvin Place from the Southbank Road direction.
It should be noted that there will be no vehicle access or parking allowed during these times. However, the footways will remain open so pedestrian access will be maintained.
Alternative routes – by way of Southbank Drive, Townhead, Cowgate, Catherine Street, the A806 New Lairdsland Road, Parliament Road, the B757 Lenzie Road, Donaldson Street and Marina Way – will be signposted.
The Service recognises that these essential improvement works may cause some inconvenience for residents and colleagues working in nearby offices and facilities.
The Roads Network Operations Team will follow the routine notification process, including local amenities in the area.
