Technical Notes 2026, Issue 159 - Outcome of John Street Inspection – October 2026
- The HSCP Learning Disability Residential unit at John Street had an unannounced inspection which commenced on Monday 19th October; completed on 20 October. Verbal feedback to the service was provided by the inspector on the afternoon of the 20 October. This was a focused Key area inspection (which sits between a light touch core assurance and a full inspection) The main focus was on Key Area 1: How well do we support people's wellbeing? which assesses service users’ day-to-day experiences, dignity, choices, health outcomes, activities, and involvement
- The service has received a grade of 5 (Very Good) with no areas of improvement in Key Area 1. The inspector also took the decision to open up Key area 2: How good is our leadership? for inspection which they also graded 5 (Very Good) It was explained that the inspector took this decision based on the obvious strong leadership, which was evident in the service, which they felt should be acknowledged as part of this inspection. (The service has been operating with an interim manager since April 2025, and it is this manager’s specific leadership which has been recognised by the Care Inspectorate)
- The service had last been inspected in July 2025 and had received Grades of 4 (Good) in the key areas of Wellbeing and Leadership. Therefore, an improvement in previous grades; there is also a recognition by the Care Inspectorate of continuous improvement which is now believed to be embedded in the service.
