Technical Notes 2026, issue 158 - 16 Days of Activism 2026
Details:
The purpose of this Technical Note is to advise Elected Members of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign for 2026, across East Dunbartonshire.
The 16 Days Campaign is a global opportunity to fight gender-based violence, promoting:
- The safety of women and girls.
- Highlighting the nature and prevalence of gender-based violence
- Raising awareness of the issue as a human rights concern.
- Strengthening efforts to combat gender-based violence.
The campaign runs every year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on 10 December, Human Rights Day.
The East Dunbartonshire Violence Against Women Partnership, which meets under the ED Community Planning Partnership, supports the campaign and organises various activities to spread awareness and action across communities within East Dunbartonshire.
Planned activities include two community events in November, together with training, social media messaging and promotion of nationally organised events. The council website and social media platforms will share information and updates, and can be accessed via 16 Days of Action against Gender Based Violence campaign - East Dunbartonshire Council
To mark the beginning of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence buildings across East Dunbartonshire will be lit up orange.

Audience must be 18 years and over.
The second community event, ‘Lads: A Guide to Consent and Respect’ to be held on 30 November at Woodland View School, is by Alan Bissett who will talk about his book, will discuss the topic of consent and respect, alongside how to deal with online negative influences and to challenge toxic masculinity.
