This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared out with the Council.

Details:

The Technical Note is to inform Elected Members that Scottish Water suffered a burst water mains on the evening of Monday 1st September 2026 in the Kirkintilloch area.  Education and Estates were liaising with Civil Contingencies Team and Scottish Water regarding updates.
Scottish Water confirmed the burst water main was resolved for 8.30am on Tuesday 2nd September 2026.

However, some school and early year establishments have not received water sufficiently since the return of service.

Scottish Water have advised there may be a secondary burst within the same location which is why some schools and early years centres are not receiving water.

The schools and early year centres affected are:

  • Gartconner Primary & Early Years Centre
  • Hillhead Primary & Early Years Centre
  • Lairdsland Primary & Early Years Centre
  • Holy Trinity Primary School

Due to lack water in the schools and early years centres named above, a decision was made by the Chief Education Officer to close the above establishments at 12pm today.

Parents/carers are currently being contacted to collect their children from the school and early years.  Transport providers are also being contacted.

The schools and early year centres are expected to reopen on Thursday 3rd September as normal, unless Scottish Water advise repair will not be completed in time.  If schools and early years centres are not able to open, communication will be sent to all parents/carers and transport providers.
