This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.

  • School travel plans were proposed for each school in East Dunbartonshire in the Council’s Local Transport Strategy (PNCA/024/20/CM) and Active Travel Strategy 2015-2020. The Council’s current Parking Management Plan (PNCA/039/22/AL) action 16a sets out a requirement for the development of information packs for each school in East Dunbartonshire, to summarise active travel information for pupils, parents/carers and staff
  • Draft School Travel Information Booklets have been produced for all 41 Primary, Secondary and Additional Support Needs (ASN) schools in East Dunbartonshire and are being circulated to schools for feedback and approval in phases, to coincide with the phased implementation of 20mph speed limits across East Dunbartonshire
  • The booklets aim to integrate active travel into the school ethos and to promote modal shift towards active and sustainable modes in line with the Schools Access Hierarchy. They contain information regarding the wide-ranging health, environment and community benefits of increased modal share for active and sustainable travel; travel planning information to encourage more journeys to be made in line with the Schools Access Hierarchy; detailed maps unique to individual schools; links to further resources and sources of information; and, where applicable, information about traffic-free school schemes
  • Linkages have also been made to the Curriculum for Excellence, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and ‘Getting it Right for Every Child’ (GIRFEC), alongside information for teachers regarding learning experiences and outcomes
  • Booklets were issued to schools in Bearsden and Twechar in June 2026 for review. Feedback was very positive and booklets were provided on school websites for the schools in these areas in August 2026. Booklets are expected to be finalised for schools in Bishopbriggs in Autumn 2026 while the booklets for schools in Kirkintilloch, Lenzie, Milngavie and the villages will be finalised as and when 20mph speed limits are approved / operational.
