Details:

The purpose of this Technical Note is to advise Members of an incident within the Council’s waste services at lunchtime today.  Council employees and the public remained safe, but the incident required the Fire Service to attend.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of Ledi Drive / Nevis Road, Bearsden with fire breaking out during a routine pickup.  It is believed to have been the result of a significant power pack or battery being disposed of in a domestic bin in an unsafe manner and condition.

The fire service extinguished the fire and the Council’s Health & Safety team is attending the site.

The vehicle remains operational and the team cleared the load safely.  Officers will notify the disposal contractor for ongoing awareness and treatment.

Officers will issue targeted communications over social media to reinforce safe practices within household refuse / recycling.  Investigations are ongoing at this time.
