  • Publication:

This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared out with the Council.

  • The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide Elected Members with notification of the Waste Operational decision to temporarily suspend special collections for a short period from Monday, 10 March 2025 until Sunday 6 April 2025
  • As previously advised, Waste Services are experiencing delays with special collection services and bin deliveries. This delay has followed the festive period where there are four public holidays within a two-week period, which was further impacted by Storm Eowyn and the requirement to catch up the suspended statutory waste collection service
  • In addition, the special collection service is now split over three waste streams, General Waste, Scrap and Electrical and recently introduced Waste Upholstery Domestics, which is any materials containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
  • This logistical change has placed additional pressures and added delays to the special uplift collections
  • The outstanding work is noted below:

Special Collections – Outstanding

  • General - 280
  • Scrap/electrical - 153
  • Upholstery (POPs) - 80.

Bin Deliveries – Outstanding

  • Grey bin - 30
  • Green bin - 268
  • Brown bin - 272
  • Blue bin - 294
  • Food containers - 580.

  • Special collections require a daily resource to maintain service levels. The service is experiencing resource challenges, both through a 20% operational absence rate, and short-term vacancies between staff turn-over.  The team are working hard to improve both
  • Resources have been identified to complete all outstanding work during the special collection suspension period. This will allow the service to return to a satisfactory service level
The Corporate Communications team will update the Council website to notify residents of the suspension period and provide the alternative option to visit the Mavis Valley Recycling Centre.
