Technical Notes 2025, Issue 217 - Lennoxtown Main Street public realm improvement project update
Details:
The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide Elected Members with information on the progress of the Lennoxtown Main Street public realm project (the Project) and in particular the site compound over the Christmas period
Project Update
- The first phase of the Project to improve the public realm around Lennoxtown Main Street has moved to the construction stage. Construction work will take several months and is expected to complete summer 2026.
- To facilitate te works, a suitable site for the contractor’s site compound needed to be identified. Due to the constrained nature of the town centre site, there are few available options within Council ownership. The public car park adjacent to St Machan’s Church was identified as the only suitable site within the proximity of the site.
- During November the main contractor, Luddon, carried out investigative works along Main Street. To facilitate these works a small, temporary compound was installed at the St Machan’s site, comprising a 10ft welfare unit and fencing. This temporary accommodation was removed in its entirety on the 28th of November 2025. The car park will remain clear and fully accessible by the public and St Machan’s congregation throughout December 2025, and during the Christmas works embargo period, ensuring there will be no impact on planned festive events.
- The contractor will install a larger compound at the St Machan’s site on the 5th of January 2026; it will remain in-situ for the duration of the construction works. Officers from the Council’s Estates Service have approved the contractor’s proposed layout and issued a Licence to Occupy.
- The Council’s website houses a dedicated webpage on three Lennoxtown regeneration projects (Campsie Memorial Hall; Lennoxtown Main Street; and Lennoxtown Greenspace projects) and will be updated throughout the duration of the works.
Next steps
- Officers will continue to liaise with the contractor and local community/local businesses as part of the delivery of the Main Street works.
