Important announcement

Unforeseen operational resource challenges over the weekend mean that our food waste collection service is suspended today, Monday 3 November.

If your food waste bin was due to be emptied today, please take in your bin and present on the next collection day, Monday 10 November.

Green bin collections in a small number of streets in the Lenzie, Kirkintilloch and Bearsden area are also affected. If your green bin has not been emptied today, please leave it on the kerbside for collection tomorrow, Tuesday 4 November.

Our teams will be working hard to minimise the impact, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.

  • The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide an update on the refurbished temporary accommodation provision at 30-34 Industry Street, Kirkintilloch, G66 3AE
  • The accommodation has historically provided temporary accommodation for young people experiencing homelessness.  It has now been upgraded and recommissioned to provide Rapid Access Accommodation with onsite housing support, which, following a successful tender process, is to be delivered by Blue Triangle
  • A comprehensive implementation plan is progressing, and it is anticipated that the service will open on Monday 5 January 2026, following registration with the Care Inspectorate and completion of Blue Triangle’s staff recruitment process
  • When operational, this property will form part of the Council’s temporary accommodation portfolio and will contribute to meeting local demand across all homeless households. The accommodation will comprise the following:
    • Seven rapid access/emergency rooms with onsite housing support
    • One emergency intake room providing four spaces for immediate or crisis placements
    • Two standalone flats onsite, which will continue to provide accommodation for emergency and out-of-hours placements.
  • The accommodation and service will operate on a 24-hour staffed model, delivered by Blue Triangle support workers, and will provide:
    • Immediate access to safe, trauma-informed accommodation
    • Person-centred support focused on tenancy readiness, budgeting, health and wellbeing, and resettlement planning
    • Integrated partnership working with Housing Options, Health and Social Care, and third-sector partners to promote positive and sustainable housing outcomes
  • Rent will be collected by East Dunbartonshire Council from all residents in accordance with the Council’s temporary accommodation charging policy. Housing benefit or personal contribution arrangements will be applied as appropriate.
