Details:

  1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to update Elected Members on the forthcoming public consultation for the draft Climate Action Plan (CAP).

    Background:

  2. The draft CAP was approved for publication and consultation by Council on 2 October 2025.  The public consultation on the draft Plan will run from 13 October until 19 December 2025.  This extended timeframe is intended to maximise engagement across East Dunbartonshire, encouraging individuals, community groups and organisations to contribute their views.
  3. An Executive Summary of the CAP will be published on the Council website, accompanied by a questionnaire designed to capture feedback on the Plan.   To raise awareness, a press release and targeted social media campaign will be launched.  An animation has also been produced to further encourage participation.  Posters will also be displayed in high-visibility locations to maximise public awareness.
  4. A series of in-person engagement events will be held during the consultation period.  These are scheduled to take place as follows:

    Drop-In / Q&A Sessions
Thursday 23 October: Milngavie Library, 1pm-5pm
Wednesday 29 October: Allander Leisure Centre, Bearsden, 1pm-7pm
Monday 3 November: Lennoxtown Library, 3pm-7pm

    Public Engagement Session
An open workshop event will be held bringing people together to discuss priorities and share ideas in a group setting:
Friday 7 November: Kirkintilloch Town Hall, 2pm-5pm Registration for this event will open on 13 October via the consulation page.

A digital engagement event will also be held during the consultation period.  The date for this is to be confirmed and will be publicised in due course.
  5. To ensure that the consultation is as inclusive and representative as possible, additional events are being arranged in partnership with the Council’s Education and Community Planning Teams, and in with East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action.  This will support outreach to local community groups, under-represented populations, and younger residents.
  6. Further information will be available on the Council website from 13 October, or from the Council’s Sustainability Team at  sustainability@eastdunbarton.gov.uk
