This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.

Details:

  1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to update Members in relation to the most recent engagement with Morrisons regarding the siting of a Taxi rank in Bishopbriggs.
  2. Members will be aware that at the last meeting of the Policy & Resources Committee on 22nd May 2025, the Council Leader undertook to write to Morrisons, requesting that further consideration be given to the siting of a taxi rank within the curtilage of the Morrisons carpark in Bishopbriggs.
  3. A letter was issued to Morrisons, and a response was received earlier this week.
  4. Morrisons welcomed the positive impact of the new store on the local community and referenced ongoing work with the Council in relation to the transfer of land for the civic space.
  5. In relation to the request for a designated taxi rank within the store car park, Morrisons confirmed once again that this cannot be accommodated due to limited space.  Reference was made to the store's central location, and the fact that the car park experiences very high traffic from customers visiting both the store and other town centre facilities and retailers.  In addition, the representative of Morrisons confirmed that given the close proximity of the railway station, a car park management system has been installed to prevent long-stay parking, and there are plans to install additional EV bays in the future.
  6. In addition to the above, reference was made to the existing dedicated taxi pick-up point located opposite the store entrance, and the provision of the free phone service at the store, which links to a local taxi company.
