This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared out with the Council.

  • The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide Elected Members with an update on the A807 Active Travel Corridor project (‘the Project’).

Section 1a

  • Construction works on Section 1a of the project on Auchenhowie Road were completed in April 2025

  • The works, funded by Tier 1 and Tier 2 of Transport Scotland’s Active Travel Infrastructure Fund, included widening the existing footway by utilising the existing grass verge, replacing the existing kerbing along the front of the footway, and junction improvements at Dowan Road including the installation of street lighting

  • A short period of works started earlier this week (week commencing Monday, 4 August 2025) to allow the Council’s contractor, Luddon Construction Limited, to undertake minor remedial works associated with identified defects and install additional drainage.  Advance warning signs highlighting the estimated 10 days of works were located on road prior to the works period commencing.  Full Traffic Management will be in place.  With works of this nature, delays are expected, however, the temporary traffic lights will be manually controlled between 7am-7pm each day to mitigate any disruption.

Section 1b

  • The Council’s design consultant on the project, Sweco UK Ltd, has been continuing work to deliver a detailed design for Section 1b, which stretches from the western end of Section 1a (at the Rangers FC training ground) to Milngavie railway station
  • As identified within the final concept designs, in response to comments received during the consultation period held on the project, the detailed design process is investigating proposals to deliver continuous footways at junctions within this section, including at the junction of Finlay Rise and Auchenhowie Road.  As was the case in Section 1a, it is also proposed that the widened footway will be redetermined to be accessible for those on foot and by pedal cycle only.  Early statutory consultations required as part of the Traffic Regulation Order processes associated with continuous footways and redetermination will begin in due course.  Letters sent to all statutory consultees will include links to this Technical Note and the project webpage to ensure the proposals are viewed within the context of the stage the project is at
  • The outcome of the statutory consultations and a final detailed design will be presented to a future meeting of the Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee for consideration and decision making regarding next steps for Section 1b
  • Several on-site surveys are required to inform the detailed design process, and these will be conducted over the coming weeks and months. The surveys include ground and ecological investigations and utility searches on Glasgow Road, scheduled to be undertaken over the weekend of 16 and 17 August 2025.

Sections 2 and 3

  • Following a competitive procurement process, the Council has commissioned Sweco UK Ltd to deliver detailed designs of Sections 2 and 3 which is from the eastern end of Section 1a (Allander Toll roundabout) to the Torrance roundabout

  • Like other Sections, several surveys are required to inform the detailed design process, and these will take place as and when required, beginning in August 2025

  • As previously reported to the Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee, some areas of land not currently within Council ownership are required to be used to deliver the concept designs.  As the detailed design process progresses and the finer details of land required is fully understood, the Council will work with adjacent landowners to agree how land could be used for the purposes of the project.Early meetings with all landowners are being scheduled to begin this process

  • As with Section 1b, a final detailed design will be presented to a future meeting of the Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee for consideration and decision making regarding next steps for these Sections

  • Officers will continue to provide any further updates via Technical Notes, when required.
