    Taxi Fare Increase

  • Responsible Officer:

Karen M Donnelly, Chief Solicitor & Monitoring Officer

  • Publication:

This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.

  • The purpose of this Technical Note is to update Members in relation to the recently approved increase in taxi fares
  • Members will be aware that at its meeting on 22 May 2025, the Policy & Resources Committee approved an uplift to taxi fares across East Dunbartonshire. The new table of fares is attached
  • Prior to implementing a change to fares, taxi operators need a period of time for meters to be adjusted and tested to the new fares. Accordingly, the Policy & Resources Committee authorised the Chief Solicitor & Monitoring Officer to set a date on which the new fares would come into force. The Policy & Resources Committee also instructed the Chief Solicitor & Monitoring Officer to issue a Technical Note to Members advising of the implementation date
  • The new fares and scales will come into force on 1 August 2025. All operators, drivers and booking offices have been advised of the changes and the changes will also be publicised on the Council’s social media accounts nearer the time
  • Meantime, officers have arranged briefing sessions for the taxi and public hire trade to discuss the fare scales more generally, with a view to conducting a wholesale review. This work was triggered in response to a submission made as part of the consultation on the most recent fare review. The purpose of the initial briefings is to gauge whether a wholesale review is favoured by the wider trade (as opposed to just one booking office) and to encourage the trade to identify concerns or problems with the existing scales etc.  An update will be provided to the meeting of the Policy & Resources Committee which is scheduled for 11 September.
