This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.

  • The purpose of this Technical Note is to advise members that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is currently undertaking a Service Delivery Review (SDR). This review involves a nationally led comprehensive assessment of how SFRS delivers on its core duty to keep Scotland’s communities safe.
  • The Service Delivery Review is looking at ways of reshaping and modernising the organisation. The primary aim is to ensure that resources (staff, stations and appliances) are matched to operational risk and demand across Scotland. This includes where fire stations are based, as well as how and when appliances are crewed across communities.
  • Through this review process, SFRS has determined twenty-three proposed possible changes in how they provide services in certain areas of Scotland. Within East Dunbartonshire, then Milngavie Fire Station is proposed to be impacted by this review.
  • The proposals are part of a public consultation throughout the summer of 2025, which opened on 25 June and will run until 16 September 2025. View the consultation on the Scottish fire and rescue service website.
  • In addition to the online survey, SFRS are running a series of public engagement events in communities across Scotland. Information about these (dates, times and locations) and how to book a place, can be found via the SFRS website. Within East Dunbartonshire, the engagement event for Milngavie is planned for Monday 25 August 6-8pm at The Fraser Centre, 11 Douglas Street, Milngavie G62 6PA.
  • A draft response to the Service Delivery Review online consultation will be prepared by officers and presented to the Policy and Resources Committee on 11 September 2025, for consideration by members.
