This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.
The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide an update on the cessation of grounds maintenance on parcels of amenity grass north of Lindsaybeg Road, Lenzie.
Following the creation of East Dunbartonshire Council in 1996 as a result of the Local Government etc (Scotland) Act 1994 and the joining of the former Bearsden and Milngavie district Councils with parts of Strathkelvin District Council, the privately owned area was continued to be maintained in the interests of amenity. The Council did not act as a formal factor in this regard. The Council has undertaken maintenance on a custom and practice basis of the amenity areas shown within the plan as listed on item 6 below. The Council reserved the right to cease to undertake maintenance works either in whole or in part at any time and was not subject to any obligation to continue with the current arrangements or enter into fresh arrangements on the same or a different basis.
A period of notice was served on the new proprietor in March 2025 giving 1 month notification prior to ceasing all Council related open space maintenance. The maintenance of said areas now reverts to the proprietor.
The cessation of works relates to green spaces only; any relevant roads adoption of footpaths, carriageway, and street lighting network remain under the remit of East Dunbartonshire Council.
The areas contained within the title GLA245403 are shaded pink and yellow on the plan below (excerpt from Land Registry mapping):
