Bishopbriggs Library is really growing places – as Provost Gillian Renwick discovered recently.
The 'Inside-Out' project has taken the library beyond its four walls – transforming underused outdoor space nearby into a place the community can enjoy, connect with nature, read, relax and take part in activities.
The innovative idea has taken root thanks to the enthusiasm of staff, residents and local groups – with external funding from The Europe Challenge (powered by the European Cultural Foundation).
‘Inside-Out’ has been developed by the library – which is part of East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust – and project partner BetterBriggs.
There has also been support from Bishopbriggs in Bloom, Bishopbriggs Men’s Shed, Youth Ambassadors, the community council and – vitally – library customers and staff.
Another branch of the project allows people to borrow equipment from the library – including camping chairs and binoculars – encouraging them to take the library experience outdoors and make full use of local green spaces.
