East Dunbartonshire Council was represented at the annual commemoration event at the Auchengeich Miners’ Disaster Memorial this afternoon by Provost Gillian Renwick and Council Leader Gordan Low.

The event, organised by the Auchengeich Miners’ Memorial Committee, was held to mark the 67th anniversary of the tragedy.

Forty-seven men lost their lives when a fire broke out at the colliery on the 18 September 1959. Provost Renwick and Councillor Low joined family, friends and the local community to remember them and keep their memory alive.
