Pupils from four local secondary schools took part in the Engineering Development Trust’s (EDT) Industrial Cadets Bronze Project today and Provost Renwick went along to see the work they have been doing.

Bearsden Academy, Kirkintilloch High, St Ninian’s High and Turnbull High competed at the graduation event held in Strathclyde University.

The Project challenged S1/S2 pupils to work as a team and engage directly with industry as they work on a STEM project for 12 weeks. Pupils and teachers worked with industry mentors from local and national employers to produce a solution to a real-life STEM problem, connecting educators with employers and putting pupils’ learning into the context of careers. Viridor and the Clyde Valley Residual Waste Project supports 15 schools to participate as part of their local community benefits initiative.

The team from Turnbull High was awarded Best Project and will go on to compete at the Scottish National Final next month.

Provost Renwick said, “All the school’s projects were fascinating and the young people were so enthusiastic explaining and demonstrating what they’ve been working on. Well done to them all but special congratulations to Turnbull High School and good luck for the final.”
