Provost Gillian Renwick welcomed parishioners from Cadder Parish Church to a civic reception at the Council Chambers to celebrate the bicentenary of the beautiful church building.
The building is a wonderful example of neo–Gothic Architecture and has played a vital role in community life in Bishopbriggs over the last two hundred years. However, despite being 200 years old, the current building is relatively new in the church’s history – there has been a Cadder Church at the site for over 800 years!
Provost Renwick said, “The current Cadder Parish Church has been a place of worship during two world wars, the closure of the pits and more recently the Covid-19 pandemic. It has borne witness to the many joyful occasions in the lives of local people, from Christmas and Easter celebrations to marriages and christenings over many generations.

“Whilst the church building should certainly be celebrated, I also want to pay tribute to the body of the kirk – the parishioners themselves. Over the last eight hundred years Cadder Parish Church has provided spiritual comfort and support to local people – greatly enhancing the lives of those living in the community for many, many generations.
“It was a pleasure to welcome some of the current parishioners to the Council Chambers and to join them in viewing old photographs and other historical items as we celebrated Cadder Parish Church’s remarkable history.”
