Royal date for Provost Renwick

The Royal Visit by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip to Bearsden on 29 June 1965 is being remembered in a Historic Exhibition at the Lillie Art Gallery.

Provost Renwick was among visitors to the gallery who watched historic footage of the Royal Visit to Bearsden Municipal Buildings where The Queen and Prince Philip met the Provost and civic dignitaries and signed the Council Visitor’s book.

Alongside the film there are two signed photographic portraits of The Queen and Prince Philip, taken by Anthony Buckley. Also on display is the Royal Visit photograph album from the East Dunbartonshire Archives.

Head to Lillie before 4 April.

Provost Renwick encouraged people to head to the Lillie before the exhibition closes on Thursday 4 April. She said,

This would have been such an exciting time for Provost JF Doig the Council staff and local people.

Special day

The footage captured the mood of that special day brilliantly and it was lovely to see.”
