Community Champion Awards 2024 - Jacqueline Willis

Meet the winner of the Caring Champion category at the 2024 Provost Community Champion Awards!

Ten years ago, Jacqueline Willis lost her best friend Angela to cancer. In Angela’s memory Jacqueline began organising a local ladies lunch, to raise funds for St Margaret’s Hospice, which relies on fundraising to run. Jacqueline with help from her sister and brother-in-law, have now run 16 lunches with each raising more than £5000 meaning her lunches have raised in excess of £80,000 for the Hospice to continue its essential work.

Jacqueline was presented her award by Provost Gillian Renwick and Depute Provost Colette McDiarmid.

As she was presented with her Award Jacqueline said,

I was delighted to hear I was nominated let alone won the Caring Champion award.

Annual event

This is something I do annually, without a thought. It's a sell out every year, everyone looks forward to and enjoys and it keeps the memory of a special friend alive. Without my amazing friends and family this would never be as successful. I’m very grateful.”

Congratulations to our Caring Champion – Jacqueline Willis.
