ready for winter imageWinter is coming and East Dunbartonshire Council is once again urging residents not to get caught out by severe weather, either at home or on the move.

Working in partnership with the Scottish Government on the Ready Scotland campaign, the Council and its partners have arranged a series of information road shows to make sure people are fully prepared and have all the information they will need to cope during extreme or prolonged winter weather.

Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the East Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership, and Council departments including Housing, Roads and Community Safety, will be on hand at the events across the region to offer help, advice and reassurance.

Council Leader Councillor Gordan Low said, “The weather is still fairly mild at the moment, so it’s difficult for people to start thinking about really bad weather. However, it’s always a good idea to take a few steps to make sure that you are ready for anything and are not caught out.

“Our road shows are a great opportunity to find out what we will be doing to make our residents and visitors feel safe, and also to let them know what part they can also play. Council officers will be practical advice on staying safe while out and about or driving and how to prepare your homes for sudden bad weather.

“The Council will prioritise keeping main roads clear and safe when temperatures drop, and will regularly post updates about bad weather and gritting programmes on its website at https://www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk/gritting, and on its social media channels.

“The Ready Scotland website has lots of advice about how to prepare for poor winter weather, and what to do if you are affected by events such as power cuts or flooding. Have a look at https://ready.scot/.”

The road shows will run from 10am until 3pm on these dates:

  • Sainsbury’s, Kirkintilloch – Friday 10 November;
  • Tesco, Milngavie – Thursday 30 November;
  • Morrisons, Bishopbriggs -  Friday 8 December.

Councillor Low added, “We are keen to make sure that everyone is as prepared as possible and we hope people come along to our roadshows. There will be a whole host of useful information and you’ll be able to speak directly to the experts and get advice that’s right for you.”
