Arranging a special uplift for old furniture and other bulky items is now even easier thanks to a new streamlined online form - the latest digital development by East Dunbartonshire Council.

The Council offers a chargeable Special Uplift service for items which are too big to fit into a wheeled bin and cannot be transported to a recycling centre or donated through Zero Waste Scotland Re-Use Line, https://www.recycleforscotland.com/re-use/national-re-use-phone-line

Now, the process for requesting this service has been upgraded to make it faster and simpler.

The new form, which can be accessed on the special uplift request page of the Council's website or through an individual’s myaccount, allows the customer to record their individual uplift items via an A-Z list of popular items along with the quantity of these items. The automated system will calculate if the uplift is standard or non-standard depending on materials and quantities.

A Standard Uplift is charged at £23.29 and as soon as the payment is made, the request goes straight through to Waste Services for an uplift to be scheduled, making the whole process much quicker for the customer. Customers can now submit a photograph when requesting an uplift, this can avoid delays in the delivery of the service.

Joint Council Leader Vaughan Moody, said, “By making the process for requesting a Special Uplift more automated, it is now much quicker and more straightforward for people to arrange this service. The drop down menu is a great addition as it takes the guesswork out of categorising items for collection and deciding whether or not they fall under standard.

"This is just one of a number of digital developments that the Council is working on to make our online processes easier for residents to use."

Joint Council Leader Andrew Polson, added, “The new streamlined process also provides residents with progress information via myaccount which aims to increase secure access to local services for local residents. It is easy to use and when you sign up it means that many forms are automatically filled in, saving you time. It also helps to track the progress of cases and allows you to save online forms for completion later. I would strongly advise people to sign up."
