Employee News 2023, Issue 34 - Pay Award 2023

Further to Employee News 28 which we issued at the end of September, agreement has now been reached on pay awards for employees whose terms and conditions of service come within the framework of the Scottish Joint Council for Local Government Employees.

A summary of the agreed pay award as notified by COSLA has been published on the Employee Zone and you can access it through this link. Our payscales are being updated to reflect these changes and we’ll advise when they are published to the Employee Zone.

As outlined in our previous Employee News updates, the 2023 Pay Award has been a long-standing item of negotiation at a national level. As is the case for a number of councils, the confirmation that agreement had been reached and that the revised pay award was to be implemented was received after the cut-off date to meet our early December and early January pay dates.

The implementation of the new rates and associated back pay will therefore be included in all payruns from 25 January 2024, as detailed in the following table:

Employees in receipt of Universal Credit

For Council employees who receive Universal Credit, your Universal Credit payment may be impacted by the 2023/24 Local Government pay award and the payment of back pay.  As Universal Credit is based on your own personal circumstances, the Council does not know if and how you may be affected, but you should be able to get help and advice from Jobcentre Plus staff. For further information, you can also find an overview of Universal Credit on the Universal Credit page [opens in a new window] of the Gov.uk website.

If you have any queries about the annual pay award, please raise these through your line manager in the first instance.

Thank you
