All voters MUST show photo ID at the polling place when voting in the next UK General Election. 

Please check to see if you have any of the types of photo ID outlined in the table below.

If you do not have suitable photo ID you can apply to the Electoral Registration Office for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector’s Document. 

This can be done NOW – you do not need to wait until a date for the Election is announced.

The sooner you do this, the sooner your application can be processed and any issues resolved to ensure your vote counts in the election.

The following types of photo ID are accepted:

Photographic ID

a UK or Northern Ireland photocard driving licence (full or provisional)

a UK passport

a driving licence issued by an EU country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the Isle of Man or any of the Channel Islands

a passport issued by an EU country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or a Commonwealth country

a PASS card (National Proof of Age Standards Scheme)

a Blue Badge

a biometric residence permit (BRP)

a Defence Identity Card (MOD form 90)

a national identity card issued by the EU, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein

a Northern Ireland Electoral Identity Card

A Scottish National Entitlement Card (SNEC) / 60 & over Welsh Concessionary Travel Card / Northern Ireland Concessionary Travel Pass

An older person’s bus pass / a disabled person’s bus pass / Oyster 60+ card / A Freedom Pass

Please note:

  • The photo must look like you even if the ID has expired
  • Voters in Scotland will not need to show ID at Scottish Parliamentary or local elections (MSPs and Councillors)
  • Failure to provide suitable photo ID at the Polling Place will result in you being unable to vote, so please make sure you’re prepared in time.
