We're flying the flag for Armed Forces Day

Provost Alan Brown raised the Armed Forces flag to commemorate the day which is now celebrated annually across the UK, always at the end of June.

Provost Brown said, “It is now a proud tradition that we fly this special flag to recognise the important date in the calendar and to show our respect and gratitude to our Armed Forces, past and present for their service and sacrifice.

"It is a personal honour for me to raise the flag and to show that the Council and the wider community is thinking, not only about Forces personnel but about Service families and veterans too. It is vital that we do this and are seen to do it."

In 2017, the Council signed the Armed Forces Covenant with the Ministry of Defence, a promise that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families are treated fairly.
