Details:
  1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to advise Elected Members of the East Dunbartonshire Trusted Trader scheme and the importance to both residents and local traders.

  2. The East Dunbartonshire Trusted Trader scheme aims to ensure that all East Dunbartonshire residents can confidently choose a local Trading Standards vetted trader in their area to carry out work on their homes.

  3. By promoting Trusted Traders, the scheme helps to educate residents to avoid cold calling, pressure selling or scams, helping to cut doorstep crime.

  4. On Monday 22 May 2023 the Council and local partners will be officially launching the East Dunbartonshire Trusted Trader scheme to the trade.  Traders in the East Dunbartonshire are being encouraged to find out more about the scheme.  Thereafter, widespread promotion of the scheme to residents, encouraging them to use the scheme will take place once there is a sufficient number of participating traders.

  5. Initially membership of the scheme will be open to the building and allied trades, including plumbers, electricians and joiners.  The Trading Standards Team will ensure traders adhere to a strict Code of Practice and promote good business practice.  New applicants must have at least 6 months trading history to join the scheme and are fully vetted by Trading Standards.

  6. The Council’s Trading Standards team is responsible for overseeing the scheme including vetting traders, regularly examining business practices and monitoring reviews and feedback.  The scheme is supported by Police Scotland.
