Clachan of Campsie – Vandalised Festive Lights on Trees
Responsible Officer:
Thomas McMenamin, Executive Officer - Roads & Environment
Publication:
This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.
Details:
  1. The purpose of the Technical Note is to provide Members with an update on the festive lights at Clachan of Campsie.

  2. Upon inspection by the Roads Streetlighting Team on Sunday 12th November in advance of the festive lights being checked and tested in advance of the actual switch on, it was discovered that the lights and associated fuse boxes had been cut and removed by persons unknown.

  3. On arrival the Streetlighting Electricians found that the equipment normally left in position had been vandalised, the installation of all the string lights that are usually left in-situ have been cut, pulled down off the tree branches and left hanging just above ground level.

  4. In addition, the supply cable used to power up the lights has been cut away and again left hanging.

  5. The Service have notified Police Scotland, but unfortunately there is no way to determine when the damage was done.

  6. The team have contacted all available suppliers in an attempt to replace the lights in advance of the festive period, but due to the competing demand at this time of year have been unable to source the necessary lights and associated equipment to renew the lights at Clachan of Campsie.

  7. I regret to advise that for this reason there will be no festive lighting display at Clachan of Campsie in 2023. I would add that this is not an event location, but it is still disappointing.
