This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared out-with the Council.
Details:
  1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to make Members aware of the planned developments by City Fibre to extend their full fibre networks. Full fibre networks provide the greatest broadband speed, bringing fibre connections to the premises in an area, whereas standard fibre networks only provide high speed cabling to street level provision, with slower cabling from street to premises.

  2. City Fibre provides wholesale full fibre connectivity to residential and business internet service providers. They have plans to connect up to 8 million homes and businesses with access to full fibre infrastructure. They are expanding their Glasgow network, which extends into parts of East Dunbartonshire. The investment will bring some economic benefits to the area and help enable access to very high speed broadband services for residents.

  3. Work in Bishopbriggs commenced in early February and will continue until later this year. Future works are planned for Bearsden and Milngavie in 2024.

  4. City Fibre are working closely with the Council’s Roads Team to ensure their cabling works meet all the necessary standards and to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.

  5. City Fibre are committed to keeping the community informed of works and use a number of channels to achieve this including letter dropping, door knocking and advertising. Residents receive a leaflet explaining the process up to four weeks in advance of the build works and a reminder one week prior. City Fibre will also be providing regular updates to Council Officers on the progress of their developments.
