- The purpose of this Technical Note is update Members in relation to the newly revised taxi fares within East Dunbartonshire.
- Members of the Policy & Resources Committee will be aware that the Committee recently approved a new taxi fare card (Appendix 1).
- The new taxi fare card was approved following the statutory process. Officers engaged with the local trade and on the basis of that consultation, prepared various options for consideration by the Policy & Resources Committee. The option selected by the Committee was then the subject of public consultation.
- At its meeting on 13th October, the Policy & Resources Committee approved the final taxi fare card and instructed officers to complete the statutory process prior to implementing.
- The final fare card was publicised and shared with the taxi trade, followed by a fourteen day period for objections. The deadline for submissions has now passed and none were received.
- The new fare card will come into force at midnight on 8th December, which provides time for taxi operators to ensure that their meters are recalibrated for the new charges. Given the time of year, taxi operators have been given until the end of February 2023 to submit a recalibration certificate to the Council.
- A further advert will be issued, reminding the public of the new fares and the date on which they come into force. The changes will also be publicised via the Council’s social media accounts.

Appendix 1 Proposed Scales
TARIFF (1) Applicable between the hours of 6.00am and 11.00pm
MINIMUM FARE for a distance not exceeding 572 yards or for time not exceeding 2 minutes 30 seconds
(or a combination of parts of such distance and such time) £3.30
For each additional distance of 174 yards £0.20
Fares for waiting:-
For each completed period of 39 seconds £0.20
Note: The above rates include for engagement of the taxi at any point within East Dunbartonshire. Waiting begins from the time of arrival of the taxi at the place of engagement. Engagement of the taxi at a point outwith East Dunbartonshire shall be the subject of special agreement.
Fares by time:-
Fares by time must be the subject of special agreement with the hirer.
TARIFF (2) Applicable between the hours of 11.00pm and 6.00am
MINIMUM FARE for a distance not exceeding 572 yards or for time not exceeding 2 minutes 30 seconds
(or a combination of parts of such distance and such time) £5.50

Fares for waiting:- For each completed period of 39 seconds £0.20
TARIFF (3) Applicable between the hours of 6.00pm and midnight on 24 December and 31 December and the hours of 6.00am and midnight on 25 and 26 December and 1 and 2 January.
MINIMUM FARE for a distance not exceeding 572 yards or for time not exceeding 2 minutes 30 seconds
(or a combination of parts of such distance and such time) £5.50

EXTRA CHARGES:-
- A charge of £2.20 shall be payable when a taxi is pre-booked but not used
- Luggage not exceeding 56lbs in weight shall be carried free
- A charge of 20p shall be payable for luggage exceeding 56lbs in weigh
- Hire commencing or ending at Glasgow Airport Drop Off/Pick Up zone - £4.00
