Details: 
  1. The Council has received formal notification from the Educational Institute for Scotland (EIS) that following a mandate for strike action in relation to an ongoing pay dispute, it is calling its members to strike on Thursday 24 November 2022. The offer presented to Teaching Trade Unions was 5%.
     
  2. The EIS, which has a membership of 1232 within the Council, undertook an aggregated ballot on national industrial action regarding the pay dispute. A summary of these national results is noted below:

Number of individuals entitled to vote:                       49, 307

Number of votes cast in the ballot:                             34, 842

Votes cost in the ballot:                                              70.66%

Number of spoilt or otherwise invalid paper              13

Those in favour of industrial action                            33,357 (95.77%) 

Those against industrial action                                   1,472   (4.23%)              

  1. The mandate covers all members of the union and in East Dunbartonshire includes teachers, instrumental music instructors, educational psychologists and quality improvement officers and managers in the corporate education team.
     
  2. As a result of the strike action all East Dunbartonshire Primary, Secondary and Additional Support Needs schools will be closed to pupils on 24 November and operational arrangements will be made for all school based staff who do not have a mandate to strike.  These will be communicated to the relevant employees once they are finalised.
     
  3. All East Dunbartonshire Early Years Centres will remain open on 24 November as these are not affected by the mandate for strike action.
     
  4. Parents and carers will be advised of the closure of schools today, Monday 14 November directly by their school through a letter and the Groupcall alert system.
     
  5. A page is being published on the Council website which will confirm the arrangements for school transport on Thursday 24 November and the payment arrangements for those in receipt of Free School Meals.

Councillors will be kept advised of any further developments in relation to this strike action through further Technical Notes.
