Details: 
  1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide Members with a further update on the Revised Proposals stage of the Review of UK Parliamentary Constituencies conducted by the Boundary Commission for Scotland (BCS).  The revised proposals include a changed boundary and an amended constituency name for each of the two constituencies, which host East Dunbartonshire residents/electors.
       
  2. Members will be aware of the 2023 BCS Initial Proposals which had East Dunbartonshire residents contributing to 2 UK Constituencies –
  • Kelvin North - comprising Wards 1-5 in East Dunbartonshire (Milngavie, Bearsden North, Bearsden South, Bishopbriggs North and Campsie, Bishopbriggs South) plus a ward from North Lanarkshire (Kilsyth)
  • Kelvin South - comprising wards 6 and 7 from East Dunbartonshire (Lenzie & Kirkintilloch South and Kirkintilloch East North & Twechar) and 4 wards from North Lanarkshire (Stepps, Chryston & Muirhead, Cumbernauld North, Cumbernauld East & Cumbernauld South).
  1. Following a secondary consultation phase which included hearings, revised proposals have been published for consultation.
     
  2. The 2023 BCS Revised Proposals have East Dunbartonshire residents contributing to the election of two UK Parliamentary constituency MPs:-
  • Bearsden and Campsie Fells - comprising Wards 1-5 in East Dunbartonshire (Milngavie, Bearsden North, Bearsden South, Bishopbriggs North and Campsie, & Bishopbriggs South) plus a ward from North Lanarkshire (Chryston & Muirhead)
     
  • Kilsyth Hills and Cumbernauld - comprising wards 6 and 7 from East Dunbartonshire (Lenzie & Kirkintilloch South and Kirkintilloch East, North & Twechar) and 5 wards from North Lanarkshire (Stepps, Cumbernauld North, Cumbernauld East, Cumbernauld South & Kilsyth).
  1. The revised proposals are available for a 4-week consultation [8 November to 5 December 2022].  Documents provided by the BCS will be displayed on the Council’s website and Social Media platforms.  The undernoted link points to the BCS website - revised proposals for East Dunbartonshire:-   Scotland | BCS Consultation Portal
