Arrangements for State Funeral following Death of Her Majesty The Queen

  1. Following the sad news of the death of Her Majesty, The Queen, it has been confirmed that her State Funeral will be held on Monday 19 September and that this day will be a national Bank Holiday.

  2. For the Council this means that Monday 19 September will be an additional special public holiday and Council services and facilities will be closed, including schools, and early years’ facilities.  The Council website will be updated to confirm this information.

  3. The exception will be our frontline services, including homecare, the Emergency Response Centre and emergency and standby services, where the usual arrangements for a public holiday will be in place.

  4. All EDLC Trust facilities (leisure and sports facilities, libraries, and culture venues) will also be closed on Monday 19 September, consistent with the Council’s approach.

  5. A letter to parents and carers will be issued through schools to confirm the public holiday and school closure arrangements.

  6. An additional payment will be paid to all those in receipt of free school meals (with the exception of universal provision) for Monday 19 September.

  7. Charges for Early Years facilities will be recalculated as a result of this additional day of closure and parents and carers will be advised.

  8. All lets in Council and Trust facilities will be cancelled on Monday 19 September as a result of the Bank Holiday and customers will be advised.

  9. Waste and recycling collection services are suspended, and catch up arrangements will be communicated through the Council website and social media channels. Mavis Valley Household Recycling centre will also be closed for the day.

  10. The Council website will be updated including a page to summarise the service changes on Monday 19 September and the school holiday pages will also be updated to reflect these new arrangements.  This important information will also be shared through social channels, consistent with guidance in relation to social media posts during the period of national mourning.
