Depute Provost Pews and Ian Ritchie withy Scottish Cup0At its meeting last week (Thursday 6 June), Depute Provost Gary Pews formally recognised and congratulated local football club Kirkintilloch Rob Roy's Under 19s team for their recent success in the Scottish Cup.

Coach Iain Ritchie brought the impressive trophy along and Councillors were delighted to recognise the team's success.

Depute Provost Pews said, “To win the Scottish Cup at this age group is a major achievement, as the team had to negotiate six rounds en route to the final, with matches as far afield as Dundee, Musselburgh and the Vale of Leven.

''I felt it was appropriate to recognise this at the start of our Council meeting.  I was delighted to pass on the Council’s congratulations to the team and appreciated Iain bringing the trophy along for us all to see.”

Iain said: ''On behalf of the team I very much appreciated the council's gesture in recognising all the hard work the boys put in to win the trophy.''

Depute Provost Pews also acknowledged the success of Bishopbriggs team Rossvale Juniors in gaining promotion to the West Region Premiership this season and congratulated Kirkintilloch Rob Roy Juniors on reaching the final of the West of Scotland Cup last weekend.  Unfortunately they lost out to Beith on penalties following a one-all draw at full time.
