Re-Heat

The Council has partnered with Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) and energy supplier E.ON on an exciting and innovative £1.09 million project exploring the decarbonisation of heating.

Complementing financial contributions from SPEN and E.ON (opens in a new window), the Scottish Government has provided funding to East Dunbartonshire Council to allow eligible homeowners in the area to have air source heat pumps and new thermal battery and technology installed.

The funding will allow 50 off-gas homes to take part with the successful applicants getting a major home upgrade for a contribution of up to £3000 towards it – a heavily discounted rate of around 85%.

E.ON (opens in a new window) will deliver the project which will look at how the decarbonisation of heating can be undertaken across the region and will help to inform the upcoming Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategy.

Residents can get information about the project, including how to apply as well as advice on how to reduce energy bills, at two events hosted by E.ON on 7 March – 10am-7pm at Bishopbriggs & Lenzie Library, 170 Kirkintilloch  Road, Bishopbriggs, G64 2LX and on the 9 March – 10am -7pm at The Maryhill Hub, 186 Wyndford Road, Glasgow, G20 8HF.

Residents can find out more and sign up by visiting E-On Reheat or call E.ON on 0333 202 4877 to pre-book a slot with one of the experts there on the day or simply drop in to speak to an expert.

It will also support the objectives of the Council’s emerging Climate Action Plan which, in part, aims to decarbonise buildings across East Dunbartonshire to reduce emissions and help to tackle fuel poverty.

What is Re-Heat?

The Re-Heat project will look at how electricity networks can manage the expected increase in demand, due to steps being taken to decarbonise heating systems through electrification. The electrification of heating means moving homes away from both gas heating and off-gas supply, and towards technologies such as air source heat pumps which rely on electricity to operate. The air source heat pumps being installed will be connected to thermal storage units. This will give customers more flexibility to use electricity for heating.

What is the benefit of Re-Heat?
