Remove obstructions and ensure paths are maintained.

Removal of obstacles to cycling across the network (e.g. short metal bollard in Cluny park), Craigdhu Way maintenance, path surface and pavement improvements, ensuring overhanging vegetation does not obstruct pathways, unblock drains so large puddles do not form, stop constant maintenance work on Drymen Rd.

Off-road active travel infrastructure

Ensure off-road paths that connect key amenities are suitable for all users and modes of active travel; replace steps with ramps to increase the accessibility of paths for all.

Widened pavements and bus stops, footways inserted where lacking, pedestrianised area and/or improved footways around Bearsden station, dropped kerbs for improved access, improved surfaces and wider pavements/narrower carriageways along major roads, a Living Streets community street audit of Bearsden, bollards on street corners and encouragement for cyclists to avoid cycling on footways, remove on-street parking on Drymen Rd – wider pavements instead, widen footpaths (Gartconnel Rd, Mosshead, Kilmardinny Play Park).

Segregated infrastructure on: Main Street, extend Bearsway to Milngavie town centre and station, upgrade painted cycle lanes on Main Street to provide more protection for cyclists, segregated route on Auchenhowie Rd to Allander Toll roundabout, improved walking and cycling needed on A81 Glasgow Rd between Auchenhowie junction and Burnbrae roundabout, segregated infrastructure from Milngavie to Douglas Academy, temporary infrastructure to extend Bearsway before making permanent, reallocate road space for active travel, segregated infrastructure from Milngavie to Hunter Rd on Craigdhu Rd, complete circular active travel route from town centre along Allander Walkway/Kelvin Way to science park and Bearsden, extend Bearsway to schools (Hunter Rd, Prestonfield and Craigdhu PS), segregated infrastructure on Woodburn Way.

Wider pavements and better/raised crossings to improve the pedestrian experience.

Wider pavements along Roselea Dr, Mugdock Rd to improve access to reservoirs, improve side road crossings for pedestrians by raising the road to the level of the footway, wider footways, Craigmaddie Rd pavement added, better protection for pedestrians on rural roads (i.e. pavements added, fences), retain town centre as pedestrian only and add more cyclists dismount signage.

Stop pavement parking (Dumgoyne Ave), prohibit car access to Milngavie reservoirs (except blue badge holders), expand Drumclog car park, remove parking on Hunter Rd/Castlemains Rd, school signage at Prestonfield/Chestnut Lane.

Maintenance

Many maintenance issues brought to light including surface issues, vegetation and lighting.

Two main ideas were received:

SRP requires major resurfacing due to tree roots.

Bridle Path between Foxes Grove, Initiative Rd and railway line requires maintenance including vegetation cut back and widening.

Other ideas included; Christine Way lighting and vegetation control, improved drainage on Waterside Rd, ground lighting on path near St. Ninian’s HS requires maintenance, trees on pavements near St. Ninian’s HS force students onto the road, canal path requires surface and lighting improvements, blocked drains on SRP cause flooding, refurbish Lenzie Moss boardwalk, Kirkintilloch Rd pavement requires surface improvement, Heath Avenue hedges need cutting back.

Off-road active travel infrastructure

Off-road path ideas were received, as well as suggestions to improve existing paths. Two ideas suggest cycling is incompatible with walking in Lenzie Moss.

Use former rail line to connect Torrance and Birdston, reinstate old bridge on SRP connecting Inchbelle Coup, Alton Holdings and Woodburn core path, remove obstruction on path at Auchendavie Rd near Tintock Rd, shared-use paths on A803 west of fire station, improve canal path on southern bank, make better use of Kelvin paths linking Kirkintilloch and Torrance, Broomhill development needs to link Kelvin and Glazert, active travel bridge under canal at Auchendavie Rd, extend SRP southward as part of National Cycle Network towards Drumpellier Country Park, widen canal path at Twechar, safe route linking Lenzie and Kirkintilloch to Glasgow (national cycle route), ramp to SRP entrance from Woodside Ave, path from Lenzie Moss to Lenzie Meadow PS with lighting, accessible bridge and lift at Lenzie Station, old rail infrastructure could be made into off-road paths, no cycling in Lenzie Moss, path around Gadloch, connect Broom Gardens and Christine’s Way for cyclists, add speed limit signage to Hawthorn Ave, path near Blackthorne Grove.

Segregated cycling infrastructure suggested throughout the area, connecting key amenities, schools and residential areas.

Segregated cycling infrastructure on Initiative Rd; between Lenzie and Kirkintilloch; Council headquarters, canal and town centre; along Marina Way connecting SRP and canal; Cowgate and Townhead; Southbank area connecting Lairdsland PS, Myrtle Ave, improve painted cycle lanes on Garngaber Ave, allow cycles through no entry signs (Strathkelvin Place).

There seem to be gaps in pedestrian infrastructure that require addressing and improvements that need to be made to the current network of footways.

Dropped kerbs for improved access on Lapwing Ave and Garngaber Ave at SRP, pavement widening along Myrtle Ave for school access, pavements required on parts of Langmuir Rd; Initiative Rd; Campsie Rd to Strathkelvin House.

Parking restrictions and infrastructure to regulate parking proposed.

Join Oxgang and Kirkintilloch HS car parks, bollards preventing pavement parking near Gartconner PS, restrict parking on Market Rd/Duntiblae Rd to make walking/wheeling easier, ban cars from parking on cycle lanes, better parking enforcement in Lenzie.
