Provost plants a tree for the Jubilee

This year Her Majesty The Queen will celebrate 70 years of service to the nation, and to mark this momentous occasion the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative is encouraging people and organisations to ‘Plant a tree for the Jubilee’.

Provost Gary Pews planted a Tai-Haku (Great White Cherry) tree in Woodhead Park in Kirkintilloch in honour of Her Majesty.

He said, “The QGC initiative is a fitting tribute to The Queen who has championed the protection of trees throughout her reign and planted more than 1,500 trees all over the world. The official tree planting season runs between October and March, but tree planting will commence again in October 2022, through to the end of the Jubilee year.  Anyone keen to get involved should visit the QGC website where there is lots of information on how to take part.”
