East Dunbartonshire's young people take to the polls in the Scottish Youth Parliament Elections

Young people across Scotland will be making their voices heard as they vote for their chosen candidates at the 2017 Scottish Youth Parliament Elections. 

MSYPs will be elected from every parliamentary constituency and from national voluntary organisations throughout Scotland.  There are two parliamentary constituencies within East Dunbartonshire – Clydebank and Milngavie constituency and Strathkelvin and Bearsden constituency.

Voting will take place online via the Young Scot website from Friday 3 March to Friday 17 March at 5pm.

 All young people aged 12 to 25 years who live or receive an education in East Dunbartonshire are eligible to vote, and can do so from Friday 3 March, by visiting http://elections.youngscot.org and registering with their Young Scot card number.  Polling stations will also be set up at the following locations in East Dunbartonshire;

  • Monday 6 March – St Ninian’s High School, Kirkintilloch
  • Tuesday 7 March – Boclair Academy, Bearsden
  • Monday 13 March – Turnbull High School, Bishopbriggs
  • Tuesday 14 March – Kirkintilloch High School, Kirkintilloch
  • Wednesday 15 March – Bishopbriggs Academy, Bishopbriggs
  • Thursday 16 March – Lenzie Academy, Lenzie

At each polling station Council Officers will be on hand to assist with the process and they will be able to access the Young Scot card numbers of those who have lost of forgotten their Young Scot Card.  They will also be able to issue temporary Young Scot cards to those who have not previously registered.

There are five candidates standing for election in East Dunbartonshire within the Strathkelvin and Bearsden Constituency.

  • Beth Gilmour (Lenzie Academy)        
  • Zac McCaffery (Bishopbriggs Academy)
  • Christopher McHugh (Turnbull High School)

There are currently no candidates from East Dunbartonshire standing in the Clydebank and Milngavie constituency.
