School children and teachers for Holy TrinityThe new £8m primary school being built in Kirkintilloch as part of the Council’s Primary School Improvement Programme has been named HOLY TRINITY PRIMARY.

The name for the new school - being built on the site of St. Flannan’s Primary to replace it and St. Agatha’s PS - was picked following a consultation by the interim parent council with both school communities, local Councillors and church representatives.

Other names in the running were St. Francis of Assisi PS, All Saints PS and St. Teresa of Calcutta PS but at the first time of asking no school had an outright 10% majority.

The two schools which polled highest were then voted on again with the following result:

  • Holy Trinity                                       118 votes (58%)
  • St. Francis of Assisi PS                    85 votes (42%)

The name has received approval from the Archdiocese.

The Council’s Education Committee recently approved the name and Convener, Councillor Maureen Henry said, “This is a significant milestone in the life of the new school as work progresses on site towards opening in Spring 2017.

“Now that the school has a name and an emerging identity, both school communities can get behind it as they continue to work together during this transition time.”

Councillor Henry met pupils from each school with local Councillors at the construction site of the new school to celebrate the news.
