Not one, but three, art exhibitions will open in East Dunbartonshire next month, showcasing a wealth of talent on our doorstep.

The Antonine Art Group exhibition opens at Auld Kirk Museum in Kirkintilloch on Saturday 6 April and will feature the work of local artists.

To mark the official opening of their exhibition on 6 April, ‘Willow Moon’ and friends will be performing a selection of folk and Americana songs between 2pm and 4pm outside the museum (weather permitting).

In addition, there will be an opportunity to meet the artists as they will be in residence on selected dates during the exhibition, which runs until May 16.

The Antonine Artists formed in 2013 to encourage interest in the practical forms of art, develop skills, and provide a social forum. They continue to meet each week in Milngavie to exchange advice and ideas while painting together using a variety of materials.

The following weekend, Saturday 13 April, two exhibitions will launch at the Lillie Art Gallery in Milngavie.

The Bearsden Art Club Annual Exhibition, which runs until 23 May, will include paintings, ceramics, jewellery and textiles created by local artists.

The official opening will take place at 2.30pm at the Lillie Art Gallery and all are welcome. The event will include a prize giving for the Millennium Bowl and also the Gregor Ian Smith Award.

Sandy Marshall, Chair of EDLC Trust, said: “We are delighted to have so many exhibitions on at the same time. Events such as these are inspiring for others and greatly enrich community life. For the artists involved, it is also a wonderful opportunity to see their work showcased.”

Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets, added, “The number of exhibitions being hosted across the year is testament to the richness of cultural life in this area. Our venues offer a great opportunity for this talent to be appreciated by a wider audience. I would urge everyone who is able to, to go along and be inspired.”

Also opening on Saturday 13 April at the Lillie Art Gallery, is Hiding Places by Scottish contemporary fine artist and photographer Mhairi Muir.

Hiding Places is an exhibition of contemporary photography on the theme of escapism. Mhairi Muir’s work is inspired by the natural world and by human social phenomena. It often takes the form of video installation, film and digital photography and also by the use of old film camera lenses to create images with a dreamy, ethereal feel. This exhibition runs until July 4.
