Your chance to go through the keyhole of iconic local buildings

A variety of iconic locations in East Dunbartonshire will be welcoming visitors on Saturday 8 September as part of Doors Open Day 2018.

This is the 20th year that the area has taken part in the Scotland-wide event and there are a range of buildings and events in the 2018 programme.

All activities are free, but please note that you may have to pre-book where places are limited.

This year’s programme has been organised by East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust with support from the Council:

Milngavie:

  • Clober Farm – 1pm to 4pm
  • Milngavie Waterworks Display, Milngavie Heritage Centre – daily from Sat 8 to Sun 15, 10am to 4pm
  • Waterworks Walking Tour, leaving from Milngavie Heritage Centre, 10am to 2pm

Bearsden:

  • New Kilpatrick Parish Church - 10am to 1pm

Kirkintilloch:

  • St Mary’s Parish Church - 10am to 4pm
  • Kirkintilloch Town Hall – 1pm to 4pm
  • “The Kirkie Kiosk” display at Kirkintilloch Town Hall, 10am to 4pm
  • Forth & Clyde Canal Society, Kirkintilloch - 10am to 4pm
  • Kirkintilloch’s Passenger Railway, walking tour leaves from Kirkintilloch Town Hall, 2pm to 3pm

Bishopbriggs:

  • Cawder House & Grounds – 1pm to 4pm (walk leaves from canal bridge on Cawder Road at 4pm  pre-booking required)
  • Bishopbriggs Library – 10am to 4pm
  • Springfield Cambridge Church & Halls - 1pm to 4pm
  • Cadder Parish Church - 10am to 4pm.

Baldernock:

  • Parish Church and Watch House - 2pm to 4pm.

Lenzie:

  • St Cyprian’s Church - 10am to 1pm.

Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of the Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee, said, "We have been involved in Doors Open Day for 20 years and it continues to be a very popular celebration of local history and heritage.

“I would encourage as many people as possible take the opportunity to enjoy this year's programme, which offers a range of visits, tours and guided walks in East Dunbartonshire.”

It is great to see so many buildings taking part, particularly in this European Year of Cultural Heritage."
