Your chance to celebrate and commemorate stories of local women in history

East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust’s popular ‘Trails and Tales’ event is making its way around the area, coming to Auchinairn this month and Milton of Campsie in March.

The events will give local people who are interested in local history, an opportunity to share interesting stories of women in history who lived and worked in East Dunbartonshire. This is their chance to come along, share and hear about local women that their community would like to be recognised.

Successful events on this theme ran in Twechar and Baldernock at the end of last year. One woman highlighted was Stansmore Dean Stevenson (1866-1944), a local female artist who studied at Glasgow School of Art. Stansmore Dean Stevenson

She was the first woman to be awarded the Haldane Travelling Scholarship. Her portrait of author Neil Munro was the first work by a living artist purchased by the National Galleries of Scotland. She was also the second wife of renowned artist Robert Macaulay Stevenson. The couple lived in Robinsfield, Bardowie Loch, Baldernock.

Previous events have been really popular so I’d encourage anyone who is interested in finding out more, to book their place now.”
