Weather and roads update - 4 March 2018

Date:
Sunday, 4 March, 2018

Updated: 11.30am - Sunday 4 March

Work to clear the snow continued overnight and primary routes are now running clear. Please be aware that a number of roads are cleared to one lane width due to the amount of snow, so please take care when driving.

Latest road closures:

  • B822 Crow Road, Lennoxtown
  • Westerhill Road, Bishopbriggs - from Auchinairn Road to the start of Wester Cleddens Road (Westerhill Roundabout)
  • Glasgow City Council has closed Balmore Road - please do not attempt to drive on Balmuildy Road, Bishopbriggs - past the Leisuredrome and Mavis Valley - as you will not be able to progress on Balmore Road

We are now tackling the secondary routes and have heavy plant equipment continuing to dig out snowdrifts. However, our progress is being hindered in some places by parked and abandoned cars. Could we ask, where possible, that these cars can be moved safely off the road so we can continue to clear the roads for everyone.

School entrance roads have been cleared in most areas and we will continue to work to clear pedestrian areas and schools.
We are still assessing conditions at each school and we will update you as soon as possible. Please be aware that there is still a lot of snow on footways. As the snow is so deep in some areas, it is difficult to clear the snow with footway ploughs but we do intend to use them where we can alongside continuing to hand dig.

We are very appreciative of all the offers of help and we know many parents have already made arrangements to go to to their school today to help with the snow clearance.
We'll provide a specific schools update within the next couple of hours.

Please bear with us as we continue to cope with these unprecedented and extremely serious weather conditions. Our teams are doing all they can to keep the communities of East Dunbartonshire safe.
