People in towns and villages across East Dunbartonshire will be able to attend local Remembrance Sunday events again this year with eleven acts of remembrance organised.

On Sunday 12 November 2023, Provost Gillian Renwick and Councillors will join local people across the area to pay their respects at War Memorials.

Local churches and Community Councils have organised events in Auchinairn, Baldernock, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch, Lennoxtown, Milngavie, Milton of Campsie, Torrance, Twechar and Woodilee.

Provost Renwick said, "My thanks to everyone who has organised these public acts of remembrance throughout East Dunbartonshire. We are fortunate to have such active organisations in our communities and I encourage people to support these events by attending their local gathering where possible.

"It is an opportunity to join together to remember and pay tribute to those who sacrificed so much for us. And likewise we must remember our veterans and those who continue to serve, as well as their families. "

A service organised by the Council will be held at the War Memorial at Bearsden Cross*. It will begin at approximately 10.40am, led by Rev Graeme Wilson of Bearsden Cross Church.

PoppyIt will be attended by Deputy Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire Pat Steel, Provost Renwick, Armed Forces personnel, representatives of the Council, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, Community Councils, Churches, schools, Boys' Brigade, Girls' Brigade, Girl Guides, Scouts and other local groups.

Provost Renwick added, “On behalf of the people of East Dunbartonshire I will lay a wreath at Bearsden War Memorial and other Councillors will do the same across the area. We are honoured to be able to join local people to remember the service and sacrifice of so many. We must never forget the past but take this opportunity to come together in quiet and respectful reflection and gratitude."
