People of all ages flocked to East Dunbartonshire for the 2018 Kirkintilloch Canal Festival, which reached a cracking crescendo at the weekend.

Residents and visitors enjoyed a range of activities and attractions between 20 and 26 August 2018.

The festival included boat trips, street theatre, canoeing, archery, water rollerz, climbing wall, Gin and Whisky Festival, classic cars, market stalls, pop-up opera, Saturday evening concert, fabulous fireworks and more.

Councillor Susan Murray, Vice Convener of the Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee, officially opened the weekend’s festivities on Saturday (pictured).

She said, “Thank you to everyone who came along to the 2018 Kirkintilloch Canal Festival. The weather may have been challenging at times, but that did not dampen any of the enjoyment or enthusiasm.

“The festival is one of the most popular events in the East Dunbartonshire calendar and a great example of joint-working between the Council and a range of partners.

“It’s also a tremendous boost for East Dunbartonshire’s economy. It is estimated that last year almost £285,000 was spent in the area by attendees.

“I want to thank everyone who made this year’s festival possible – we couldn’t do it without you. Roll on the 2019 Kirkintilloch Canal Festival!”

The Festival is organised by the Council and partners including East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Kirkintilloch Baptist Church, the Regent Centre, New College Lanarkshire – Kirkintilloch, Seagull Trust, Scottish Canals, the Forth and Clyde Canal Society and Kirkintilloch & District Classic Vehicle Club.
