That's the offer to people ahead of a series of free guided walks tying in with the Trails and Tales programme - beginning on Tuesday 5 November.

The initiative was created by East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust to explore local history through outdoor arts and heritage routes.

Talented artists have worked closely with local residents and groups to create a range of new works and trails.

Free maps are being printed to allow people to enjoy journeys into the past at their own convenience - available soon from local libraries and cultural venues.

Free guided walks - led by Jen Binnie, co-ordinator of Trails and Tales - have also been organised and you are invited to secure your place now:

  • Tuesday 5 November – Lenzie (6.1km) and Kirkintilloch & Waterside (7.6km)
  • Friday 8 November - Lennoxtown (6km)
  • Tuesday 12 November - Milton of Campsie (5.3km)

Councillor Vaughan Moody, Joint Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council and Chair of EDLC Trust, said, "The free guided walks are a great way of taking local history in your stride and learning more about our communities.

"The idea is to test the routes with participants and gather feedback on heritage, locations and artworks. I hope as many people as possible secure their place and find out more about Trails and Tales, an inspirational project which draws on the past to connect to the present and future.

"A series of talks took place recently to shed more light on the artistic endeavour and community work involved in Trails and Tales.

"I'm delighted we have been able to produce maps to help people discover the routes for themselves, as well as organising a series of wonderful guided walks. Book your place now."children outdoors

EDLC Trust created Trails and Tales with support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Creative Scotland and East Dunbartonshire Council.

Walk participants are asked to wear sensible footwear and clothing. Some parts of the routes are in rural locations and over unmaintained paths and rights of way.

Interpretation of the artworks and their response to the heritage of the area is a major part of Trails and Tales, and each artwork is accompanied by either a small plaque and/or a weblink and QR code linking to specific information on the project website - www.trailsandtales.org
