Two Mass Vaccination Centres in East Dunbartonshire opened on Monday 1 February and are efficiently delivering vaccinations to the over 70s in line with the agreed prioritisation, with the over 65s also set to start receiving their invitations.

Joint Council Leader Vaughan Moody is pleased at the positive feedback from those who have attended.  He said, “There was a phenomenal effort from teams across the Council and EDLC Trust, working closely with NHS and army colleagues to get our vaccination centres up and running in a challenging timescale.  It is great to hear the positive comments about the efficiency of attending for vaccination and I hope that encourages all those invited to come and get their vaccination as protection from Covid-19.”

Joint Council Leader Andrew Polson added, “Our Council and EDLC Trust teams continue to play an important role in supporting those attending the vaccination centres, and our huge thanks go out to all those involved.  It has been a phenomenal effort to get to this stage and now that the clinics are established we need everyone who is eligible and who has received their invitation to make sure they come along.”

Those aged 70-74 are currently being invited by NHS letter to the mass vaccination centres.  In tandem to this, GP surgeries are vaccinating those over 75 and those who are vulnerable or have been shielding.

Director of Public Health at NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, Dr Linda de Caestecker said; "The COVID vaccination programme is moving at pace right across Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Our local GPs have been making great progress with those people aged 75 and over and I am delighted that the next major milestone for the programme has been achieved, with the opening of 17 mass vaccination centres in our region.

"People aged 70-74 have started to receive letters with information about their vaccination appointment, which is expected to take place at a community vaccination clinic.

"Those who are in the clinically extremely vulnerable category will be contacted by their local GP or Health and Social Care Partnership, with details of when and where they will receive their vaccination, which may be at the local GP surgery or community clinic.

"We would like to reassure patients that all those over 70 who wish to be vaccinated, will be given this opportunity, either through their GP or an invite to a community vaccination clinic by mid-February. For those people who will be attending one of the centres in the coming weeks, our vaccination teams are very much looking forward to welcoming you to roll up your sleeve and be vaccinated."
